Week 6! Half way through the ranking season!
Seriously, 6 weeks. Time is flying by almost as fast as you guys are!!! Very exciting week! Our numbers are a little low but for the first time in the GSR history, we have two of the top three spots held by women!!! Bob Pelletier narrowly kept the boys in the top spot with a speed of 40.1 but Chrissy Zobitz was a very close second with 39.6 mph. ONE HALF A MILE AN HOUR!!!! Third place was wrapped up by our own Molly Savard 38.2 mph. Thanks again for playing and see you all Next week! Deadline for week 7 is 2.18.18

Week 5! Lots of action coming out of Quebec with the Canadians owning the top 4 spots. Guy continues to dominate while Marcel in second place, almost closed the gap. Meanwhile Bob narrowly edged out Colin Noel for third place! A similar battle was seen between Robert Cook and Dave Armovit with Robert beating Dave by 3/10ths MPH. And then we have the Frank and Molly show with Frank beating Molly out by just under 1 mph! Big Shout out to Vanessa for getting out for the first time this year and still bagging a speed over 20mph and a shout out to Bryan Natusch for also breaking the 20mph barrier ON HIS FIRST TIME RIDING! GREAT WORK EVERYONE!Week 6 submissions are due 2.11.18 Yeeehaaaaaa! Week 4 results are up and Guy has once again put the bar up high with a top speed of 70.35 mph. This is the first 70+ speed of the season! Very few have gotten into the 70 MPH club and it will be quite a challenge for anyone, including Guy himself, to beat that speed. The guys in Quebec own the ranking this week taking the top 3 spots with Marcel at 57.41mph for 2nd and Bob at 48.6mph for 3rd. If you're wondering what kind of winds you need to reach the 70mph zone, take a look at Guy's entry. Robert Bocik enters our first ice buggy of the season and comes up with 38.6 mph and a minor mishap. Well done Guy and everyone who came out to play. We love seeing what you're all up to and we look forward to seeing what you do for next week!!!
Deadline for week 5 is 2.4.2018 Go get it! WOW! The Swedes really pushed hard last week and the results show. Our ranking leader Guy has been kept out of the top spot by Swedes Robin and Jonas ON SKATES!!!!
This is the first time we've ever seen skates at the top of the ranking and the first time we've seen anyone on skates go so fast. Very impressive achievement!!! Setting the bar high!!! It just shows you never know what can happen until it happens. You just need the right conditions, with the right equipment and the right person to use it, to get some amazing results. It's not an easy thing to do. But it happens. So now the question I pose to you all is this. What is faster? Skis or skates? Now, my response (and I'm a bit biased here) is skis are still the best tool for speed on a kite. But Robin and Jonas put up a good argument against this. Only time will tell. Well done gentlemen. Very impressive. Deadline for submissions for Week 4 is 12.28.18. Get out there, have fun, be safe, haul A$$. :-) Week 2 results are in. We were hoping to see another showdown between Guy and Gary but Gary had to work. So in his absence Guy is doing what he does best. Staying in first place!
Saulius Muliolis came in a not too distant second place with Jeff Jacobs in third. We are happy to see Fart Boy Armovit back in the mix! The ranking wouldn't be the same without him! Robin Larson brings up the rear this week. But those Swedes have been busy the last few days. I'm pretty excited about next weeks postings. Stay safe, go fast and have fun. See you all next week! Well, here we are again! Another snow kite season, another Hardwater Kiting GSR and I am totally psyched to see so many familiar faces! Participation is always a little "lean" initially but it also consists of the dedicated participants that we love to see year after year. And it's always fun to see how everyone has progressed over time. Seriously, even in light wind on a non-race kite, people are still over 20 mph. And more than half the field is over 40- mph and close to 50 mph! And of course it's always a thrill to see what the speedy guys in Quebec are up to. I'm psyched to welcome Gary Kjelleren back into the mix. He was MIA from the ranking for a bit but has returned with a vengeance and is tied for week one with Guy Lebrun! I'm hoping this cultivates some friendly rivalry in the ranking. It's always exciting to see two power houses dual over the season. Of course I have to note that Gary submitted two speeds for week 1. One for ski and one for boards. 52 on a board is quite an achievement. Especially given it isn't a custom kite race board. Well done Gary you beast! ;-) Week 2 submissions are due 1.14.2018 Let's see what you got!!! Okay kids, it's that time of year again. Time to get your edge on!!! The 2017 Hardwater Kiting Global Speed Ranking starts Monday, January 1st!!! Just a couple weeks from now!!! If you have participated in the past, nothing much has changed. If you are participating for the first time ever, please read the GSR rules. http://www.hardwaterkiter.com/snow-kiting-global-speed-ranking-rules.html We aren't too pushy about rules and regulations. We like things to be simple and just care about confirmed raw top speeds. It's about fun here people though we do have "some" standards. So get ready, get those skis tuned up and get ready to rip. WEEK 12!!!!We are at the 12th and final official week of the 2017 HARDWATER KITING GLOBAL SPEED RANKING. It's with a little sadness that we post the 12th week results as we know it means that our season is coming to an end as we watched others loose their season over the last few weeks. We love to see how fast people are going over the season and getting reports from amazing places all over the globe!
This season, without question, Quebec was the place to be for speed and the riders up there made good use of their conditions. Guy Lebrun DOMINATED the ranking again this year followed closely by Marcel Lepine also from Quebec. Marcel narrowly pushing Guy out of the 1st place position at the end of the ranking series. A few people pushed their personal limits and got some personal bests. We had a few new riders who got to experience the thrill of speeding across the snow and ice for the first time and in their way experience what it's like to "push the envelope". I remember when I first started submitting to the Storm Boarding Ranking and how excited I was to get a new higher speed. Even if it wasn't "fast" compared to what was to come, it was nonetheless thrilling and fun as hell. This season we've had the most young riders ranking ever. Kylan Morneau, Nicholas Elliott and Nathan Brooker are entering speeds at ages 30 yrs younger than most of us. Where will they be in 30 more years? Where will kiting be? I don't know. But I do know that I'm psyched to see them in riding and seeing what they can do. They are getting into the sport at a time when the kite technology and safety is better than it has ever been. Hopefully we will see more young riders coming into it as a result. We hope that everyone had as much fun participating in this season's GSR as we had hosting it. Speaking of hosting, when I step back and think about what goes into it I think of how hard Rachael Miller (rozaliaproject.org) must have worked to put together the Stormboarding ranking. She did and amazing job. Thanks Racheal! We are looking forward to hosting it again next season. Thanks to everyone who participated and supported our speed ranking. We really, REALLY appreciate it. We will post the OVERALL 2017 ranking results hopefully in the next day. We are also going to post the overall all results for every ranking submission submitted through HARDWATERKITER.COM in the last 4 years of ranking history. It will take a little time as we filter through over 500 entries. But we think it will be interesting to see. And finally, two things. 1) If you submitted a speed to the ranking, we'd love a headshot of your smiling face for a "rogues gallery" of ranking participants. We have a few but we'd like more. 2) some riders are just getting their speed season started. We are considering doing a post season ranking that will include anyone who still has riding available and can submit speeds. This will allow us to include riders in the Southern hemisphere for the first time as well. We will post the results at the end of each month if people want to continue to submit speeds. Again, thanks to EVERYONE! You all rock and we are thankful for your support and for letting us share your kiting experiences. Seriously, THANK YOU!!! Week 11. Our speedy friends, Marcel and Guy have battled it out this week in Quebec with Marcel beating Guy out of the top spot by .26mph! Robin Larsson of Sweden rounds out the top 3!
We have our first entry from a rider using a Paraski Flex with a respectful 57 mph speed. Very cool! A special shout out to the last but not least participant this week. Mickey O'Brien throws his hat in at 10 mph. Mickey bagged his speed during his first riding clinic with us and was working the heck out of his 6m kite on a day when the smallest kite in the air was 14m. Nice Job Micky! Next week is the final week of the 2017 ranking. Speed submissions deadline is 3.25.2017. WHen we post the final week result we will also update the overall ranking which will list everyone and their overall standing for the 2017 season. Thanks again for playing and see you all next week! |
