Post Rain Report

In the last 24 hours New England has received significant rainfall as well as warm temps.  The rain has ended but the warm temps will continue for a few more days.  This weather has significantly impacted the ice conditions and at this time we are recommending extreme caution if venturing out onto the ice or even better, stay off the ice until we get some cold temps back.  Areas like Leavitt Park and the Broads of Squam are likely severely compromised right now and should be avoided.  Other locations like Melvin and Choco probably lost minimal ice but anywhere the currents run will likely be a bit compromised at this time after being subjected to the warm inflow of rain water.  Some places have lost up to 2" of ice. Surfaces are covered by a water layer and will remain that way until drain holes develop or we get a good cold snap or both.  Edge ice will be softer so access may be an issue as well.  On the upside, this will smooth out the surfaces that had developed patches of snagging nuisance snow. We will scout some areas today and see how they fared.  In the meantime, again, proceed very cautiously and if you don't know the conditions, stay home.  At this time we are suspending lessons for the next few days and through the weekend.  We apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to get students back on track soon.
